What property value counts as Council Tax band E?

The E interval starts at £88,001 on the historical valuation scale. A valuation of exactly £88,000 is in D, while exactly £120,000 remains E; F starts at £120,001. These are England’s 1 April 1991 values, not current estate-agent prices.

A home can therefore sell for much more than £120,000 today without leaving E. The registered assessment is what you should verify through the band lookup guide, rather than assigning a band from a recent sale.

Can Council Tax band E get the £100 energy payment?

E is outside the A–D property scope announced for England. There is no verified extension to E in the rules used by this guide. Do not treat a low income, a high energy bill or the award of a Council Tax discount as proof that the announced band boundary changes.

Households outside A–D may get help from an extra £100 million the government is giving councils for those hit hardest by energy bills. A payment reference date has not been published. If the policy changes, check the official source ledger. Avoid messages promising to make an E property qualify in return for a fee.

Other help with a band E bill

Being outside this particular announcement does not settle eligibility for every support scheme. Ask your council about Council Tax Reduction and any other help relevant to your circumstances. An application under one scheme is separate from a decision under another.

For the same locality, the full E charge is about 22.2% above D. The worked comparison shows the charging relationship before personal adjustments. Do not assume that a resident in E necessarily has more disposable income than someone in D.

A band challenge needs evidence, not a payment target

If you believe the valuation is wrong, gather relevant property evidence and read the free challenge guide. A review can increase a band or leave it unchanged. It should not be used simply to seek £100, and a change would not itself resolve the scheme’s still-pending reference-date rules.

Questions about Council Tax band E

Is band E included because it is next to band D?

No. The announced England scope names A–D. Being the next band above D does not make E part of that announcement.

How much more expensive is Council Tax band E than D?

The standard E charge is eleven-ninths of D, about 22.2% higher in the same locality. Compare full annual charges before personal discounts, reductions or other adjustments.

Can I ask for help with Council Tax if I am in E?

Yes, you can ask your council which reduction or support schemes apply to your circumstances. The A–D boundary in the energy announcement is not a universal test for other assistance.
