Has Scotland announced £100 energy support?
In its response to the UK Budget on 28 October 2026, the Scottish Government stated that households in Scotland would benefit from the one-off £100 support. This is more than an assumption that Scotland might use its funding in the same way as England.
| Question | Local position |
|---|---|
| Support commitment | £100 energy bill support announced by the Scottish Government. |
| Qualifying households or bands | No Scottish eligibility test has been verified for this guide. |
| Individual payment dates | Not verified; England’s January start cannot be used as a Scottish date. |
| Delivery or application route | Await Scottish instructions; this website does not take applications. |
Scottish Council Tax bands are not England’s bands
Scotland uses bands A–H and a valuation date of 1 April 1991. Sharing a date and letters does not make the thresholds identical. The Scottish Assessors’ band ranges put A at up to £27,000 and D above £45,000 up to £58,000. England’s corresponding limits are different.
Most importantly, a Scottish home in A, B, C or D cannot be declared eligible by applying England’s payment test. Nor should a Scottish E–H home be ruled out by that test while Scottish conditions are unresolved. Our A–H detail pages and their charging examples are explicitly for England.
When will the £100 payment be made in Scotland?
No Scottish household payment date has been verified in the sources used here. January 2027 is the announced start window for England, not a timetable for Scotland.
The Scottish Government’s 28 October statement says further detail would be addressed as part of the Scottish Budget on 3 December. That is an announced occasion for further information, not a payment day. Do not assume that an existing Council Tax Direct Debit authorises or guarantees an automatic Scottish payment.
Where to check your Scottish band and household bill
Use the Scottish Assessors’ portal to find the relevant valuation record and assessor. Your local council deals with the Council Tax bill and any reduction or payment enquiry. A question about the property assessment is different from a question about the amount due.
Confirm the address and registered band before comparing information. A number of bedrooms, current asking price or England-based estimate is not an official Scottish assessment. If you are struggling with a bill, ask your council about help available under its own rules rather than waiting for an unconfirmed energy-payment date.
What to do while Scottish payment rules are pending
- Keep your current Council Tax bill and check the Scottish Government’s own updates.
- Wait for a verified recipient rule before assuming how tenants, reductions or exemptions will be treated.
- Do not pay a fee to join a “priority” claim list.

Questions about Scotland’s £100 support
Does living in Scottish Council Tax band D confirm eligibility?
No. England’s A–D payment condition cannot be transferred to a Scottish property. Scotland has announced a support commitment, but the detailed Scottish eligibility test remains pending in this guide.
Is the Scottish Budget date a £100 payment date?
No. A date announced for further budget information is not a household payment date. A Scottish payment timetable must be verified separately.
Can I use an English 1991 house-value table for Scotland?
No. Scotland also uses a 1991 valuation basis, but the thresholds differ. Use the Scottish Assessors’ register and Scottish band ranges.
