Am I eligible for the £100 energy payment?
The £100 Household Energy Payment has been announced for households in England in Council Tax bands A–D. Bands E–H are outside the announced scope. It goes to the person liable for Council Tax on their main home — second homes and empty properties are excluded. If you pay Council Tax by Direct Debit you should not need to do anything; other households will be invited by their council to apply.
Payments are announced from January 2027. Read when the £100 energy payment is due for the timeline and unresolved details. No individual payment date has been published: Direct Debit payers are paid automatically and councils will invite other households to apply.
For homes elsewhere in the UK, see the separate guidance for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Check the official sources behind the payment rules.
What Council Tax band am I?
You can find your Council Tax band on your latest bill or through the official property register. Our Council Tax band checker guide explains both routes and shows where to look on your bill. You do not need to enter your postcode on this website.
England’s Council Tax bands use property values from 1 April 1991. Today’s house price or number of bedrooms cannot confirm a band. Choose a band below to see its valuation range and how it relates to the announced payment.
Want to know what your band costs? The Council Tax calculator shows how much each band is per year and per month in 2026/27, and you can compare Council Tax in major cities such as Manchester, Leeds and Liverpool, or London boroughs like Westminster and Croydon. A challenge needs relevant evidence; it should not be made solely to seek the £100 payment.

What Council Tax band am I?
Look for the property band on your latest Council Tax bill or use the official register linked from GOV.UK. The registered band, rather than today’s house price, is the relevant starting point. Find your Council Tax band.
Do I need to apply for the £100 energy payment?
Not if you pay Council Tax by Direct Debit — the £100 is paid into your bank account automatically. If you pay another way, your council will invite you to apply. This website does not accept applications, take payment or collect bank details. Read the payment and application updates.
Can I get the payment if I rent my home?
Renting does not tell you who is liable for Council Tax. Check whose name is on the bill. The payment goes to whoever is liable for Council Tax on their main home — usually the tenant if the bill is in your name. If Council Tax is included in your rent, your landlord is usually liable. Read the tenant guide.
When will I get the £100 energy payment?

What if I live in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland?
Wales has announced separate £100 cost-of-living support for bands A–D. Scotland has committed to £100 energy bill support, with detailed eligibility and delivery still pending. Northern Ireland needs its own arrangements and uses domestic rates rather than Council Tax bands. Read the guide for your region. Scotland. Wales. Northern Ireland.
Is the £100 payment the same as the £150 energy payment?
No. The £100 Household Energy Payment is new support for England bands A–D. The £150 Warm Home Discount is a separate electricity bill discount for people on certain benefits, and the 2022 £150 Council Tax rebate has closed. Compare the £150 and £100 payments.
Do second homes, empty or Council Tax exempt homes get the £100?
Second homes and empty properties are not eligible, according to GOV.UK. How exempt households and households with Council Tax reductions are treated will be set out in the full criteria, which are still to be published.
Is this an official government website?
No. Energy Payment Checker is an independent guide. We link to official sources and show when the information was checked. We cannot confirm entitlement or access your Council Tax account.
